註1：「Manners maketh man」這句話由於電影「金牌特務」（Kingsman: The Secret Service）的台詞而走紅，不過它其實是來自於英國14世紀主教William of Wykeham的座右銘「Manners makyth man」。

註2：Sting在這首歌中描述的人物其實是英國的演員Quentin Crisp。出生20世紀初的Quentin Crisp有著傳奇的人生，在他年少時期，曾經當過男妓（rent-boy），但這些經歷並不妨礙他修習藝術，並且成為作家、演員，尤其他的獨角戲更是英美兩地長青的藝術表演。不過他特殊的個人視野觀點、性別傾向、禮儀要求，讓他變成一個與通俗大眾格格不入的「他者」。也因為如此，Sting才會寫這首「Englishman in New York」來頌揚Quentin Crisp面對眾人壓力卻依然挺立的勇氣與堅持。
