註1:《詩篇》第23篇的第二、三段寫著「He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. 」。歌手是使用聖經的典故來說明自己已無法得到救贖。

2013年，美國Naughty Dog在Play Station 3上發表了他們當年度開發的新遊戲《The Last of Us》（最後生還者），帶領我們進入一個打動人心的悲慘末世故事。

《The Last of Us》的主要角色是Joel和Ellie，描述了為生存而抉擇的困境。在遊戲叫好又叫座的4年後，Naughty Dog釋出了《最後生還者2》的預告影片，在影片中我們看到主角Ellie在血戰後的房間裡自彈自唱著，神情中流露出憤恨與哀傷。

那首勾勒出《最後生還者2》氛圍的歌曲，就是《Through the Valley》。

關於歌手Shawn James，在芝加哥南方成長的他，深受靈魂樂、藍調、民謠的影響。所以在這首《Through the Valley》裡可以感受到他彈唱的渲染力，似乎可以藉由音樂想像一個悲劇英雄的寂寞。
