關於戰爭反思的歌曲再一波。與前些日子翻譯的Dire Straits展現的黯然銷魂不同，以批判性見長的Rise Against這次一反過去的後龐克激進曲風，改成以單純的吉他刷法配上第一人稱的敘事歌詞，婉轉的諷刺了戰爭的矛盾。
有趣的是，歌曲名稱雖是「戰爭英雄」（Hero of War），但歸鄉勇士，在備受眾人稱讚的光環底下，到底壓抑著多少的衝突，見證了多少無法吞嚥而下的死亡，是我們無法瞭解的。
藉由歌曲中「我」的描述，軍旅生涯從一剛開始的憧憬與夢想，接觸了現實的殘酷之後，瞬時崩壞瓦解，而原本高舉的那面旗幟，象徵著愛國、榮耀、驕傲，蒙上了塵土的陰霾之後，戰士們又要如何去消化這些衝擊呢？又要如何能承擔的著「戰爭英雄」這個名不符實的形象呢？
Dire Straits的「血盟兄弟」是用委婉的象徵描述了滿溢而出的哀悽情感，對於戰爭的無情，多的是感嘆和掙扎。而Rise Against的「戰爭英雄」，則是用諷刺的手法，表面上讚揚愛國精神，實際上是揭露了戰爭虛偽與浮誇的黑暗面。
